Pancake Face Printing at AS Cafe in Maya Mall (Chiang Mai, Thailand)

pancake face printing

Ever since I got to Chiang Mai, I would say to myself that I had to try this pancake face printing service at Maya Mall. I put it off for 3 months until the last day before I headed to Cambodia. Well, I’m glad I ended up doing it cause It’s actually pretty awesome! Eating your own face is a strange feeling but it’s a tasty one for sure.

So the place looks like this:

It looks pretty nice! I was surprised because every time I passed by it, nobody would be there…I really didn’t understand why. I’m sure if this were located at home in the bay area, there would be a line going out the door for this Instagram-able opportunity.

They have other things they print that you can purchase. They’re a bit pricier:

You can get a wooden or crystal creation of your face, that cost around $30-50. I decided I only wanted the pancake.

You order at the front here:

To proceed with the face printing, you have to send them a photo of yourself to work off of. I joked that I should get done up so my pancake would look done up, but in the end it didn’t even matter at all! They base the pancake off the photo you send them. We were also joking that we could have just sent them memes or other inappropriate photos rather than our own faces.

I ordered the set with a cut mango, vanilla ice cream, and Coca Cola. It was only about $8 USD for the entire meal. I think it is a great deal considering the fact that you’re getting your face printed via a combination of machine printing and artist work.

I took a few videos of the printing process:

It’s interesting. The design they put down and print is actually the back of the pancake! I missed the part where they flipped the pancake to show the creation though.

Here was the final outcome. My meal:

Okay, it sort of looks like me but doesn’t, haha. In the future, I’d advise not to send them a photo with teeth showing cause they like to draw lines for the teeth when printing, and it looks weird! Or you can probably just tell them not to add the lines if you don’t want them.

The presentation of each set was actually really nice. It went beyond expectations.

Do the pancakes look like us?

Even if the pancaked faces didn’t 100% look like us, they tasted delicious. I was super happy with my purchase! I highly recommend you all to try this if you’re heading to Chiang Mai, Thailand. I think it’s awesome especially cause it’s a random activity not really named on online lists of top things to do in Chiang Mai. Let me know how it goes if you end up trying it!
