How to Create a Catchy Dating Profile

I’m creating this post because I have gotten a lot of questions from my guy friends on how to create a great dating profile and stand out from the sea of faces. In this post, I’ll break down how to use the power of good photos and a unique bio to snag that girl you didn’t know you liked yet.

How to Create a Catchy Dating Profile

Photos

Let’s start with photos – photos are SO crucial and as great as your personality is, it’s hard to see that via an app. If anything, let your personality shine through your photos.

Here are the types of photos that seem to generate the most interest:

  1. Photo with cute dogs/cute animals. This shows that you have a heart and that you know how to take care of something other than yourself
  2. Group shot. This helps to know that you’re socially competent enough to have friends
  3. Solo head shot of face. This ensures that people can clearly see ya and won’t feel catfished when they meet you. Here is a personal fave of the fine actor, Cillian Murphy.
  4. Full body shot. Everyone has a physical type that they’re attracted to, show off what yours is!
  5. Doing something you like, whether that’s hiking, dancing, or surfing. This will give you something to talk about when y’all match!

Please DO NOT:

  1. Have a mirror selfie casually showing off your abs. This makes it seem like you’re way too into yourself and it’s really hard to do this well, without getting too much of your bathroom decor or the annoying flash and bathroom lighting is just not flattering.
  2. Take a selfie doing the duck face. Again, too into yourself.

Speaking for myself, I actually read the bios! Bios are really your chance to differentiate yourself from all the other dudes out there and humor is not a bad way to go.

If you’re having a tough time coming up with a bio, you can ask for feedback from your friends! Sometimes they know your strengths better than you do and may be able to come up with some points that you hadn’t thought of. Here is a prime example of a bio that my former boss wrote for me:

“Hiiieeee!!! I’m intrigued by a guy that loves the smell of a real book in his hands and the feel of turning the page. I’m extremely curious and love learning about new things/beliefs/concepts. Exploring the world through travel is my passion. Day to day, I enjoy staying healthy mentally and physically by doing yoga, muay thai, and kick boxing. I am the Heesun! Baii!!”

Other than the “I am the Heesun” statement, it was pretty spot on. I haven’t had a chance to use it yet but it was a great summary of what I’m interested in and my general viewpoint on life.

Conclusion

Online dating can suck but at least we know that we’re all in this together. While it can be nerve wracking to meet up with a complete stranger, the Internet has really given us way more dating choices than before and apps are a great way to take advantage of that. Even if you end up not being compatible, you may walk away learning something new about yourself and what you do/don’t want in someone you’re dating.
